The cost of a consignment can be affected by the amount of space that it occupies on a vehicle, as opposed to the actual weight. This is called the volumetric weight.

The volumetric weight of a consignment is a calculation that reflects the density of a package. A less dense item generally occupies more volume of space, compared to its actual weight. The volumetric weight is calculated and compared with the actual weight of the shipment to determine which is the greater; the higher weight is used as the chargeable weight of the consignment.

To find the volumetric weight of your item please use our calculator tool below:

UK Parcel
Width (cm) Length (cm) Height (cm) Volumetric weight (kg)
  x     x     =     0.00
International
Width (cm) Length (cm) Height (cm) Volumetric weight (kg)
  x     x     =     0.00

The formula for calculating volumetric weight for consignments travelling via our UK parcel network is length x width x height (cm) divided by 6000.

For international consignments, the conversion factor is 5000. The formula for calculating the volumetric weight for international consignments is length x width x height (cm) divided by 5000, or use our calculator tool above and select ‘international’.
